Community Service

District of Columbia Public Schools (ÐßÐßÊÓƵ) is committed to preparing students to succeed academically, feel connected to their communities, and being prepared for what's next. Explore our approved community service opportunities below. All activities must be verified through the Community Service Verification Form. Students should consult with their school counselor for approval before beginning any opportunity. All students graduating in the class of 2026 and after must earn 100 community service hours prior to graduation.

Approval Reminders to Satisfy Community Service-Learning Graduation Requirement

  • Pre-approval from school counselors is highly recommended.
  • All Community Service Verification Forms must be submitted to your school counselor after completion of an activity.
  • You may not use your parent or guardian as the supervisor for your hours.
  • For virtual opportunities, submit evidence such as photos, letters, or screenshots.
  • Students may only earn community service hours at 501(c)(3) organizations, schools, or government agencies as long as it is a non-paying voluntary service for the benefit of the community. An example of a non-approved organization would be a childcare center that receives payment.
  • Students may only use community service hours they have earned after 8th grade has ended. This means your student is allowed to use hours they have earned in the summer leading into 9th grade.
